Do Pawn Shops Buy Furs – ANSWERED!

Brian McCracken

Pawn

Of all of the things that pawn shops buy and sell on a regular basis, one of the most overlooked potential item to get a loan against at your local pawn shop is apparel like a fur.
Now, the question unfortunately isn’t the easiest thing to answer in a direct way that covers all pawn shops across the country.
The fact of the matter is that there are some pawn shops that will buy furs, but unfortunately the number of them that do has dropped significantly in recent years on average.
Overall, as the popularity of things like fine furs has decreased, so has the demand for them. The result of this is that pawn shops will also have less interest in them since they would be harder to sell if the fur was to forfeit or in the event that they bought it outright.
Pawn shops still have to be able to sell the items that they take in if they need to recover their money and when there just isn’t a whole lot of customers for a particular kind of item, it makes that item much less appealing to your average pawn broker.
In addition, it doesn’t help that there are so many counterfeit and impostor furs on the market these days. Everything from Chinese copies of designer brands to outright, low quality fake furs have flooded the streets over the past 20 years and that only make it a tougher sell when it comes to getting a loan for one in a pawn shop.
Not all pawn shops will accept furs but there are still some out there that will.
How Much Will A Pawn Shop Pay For A Fur
If you happen to have a pawn shop in your area that will accept and deal in furs, then you are definitely in luck.
The next major question of course will be to know just how much a pawn shop will pay you for your fur and that’s going to depend on a lot of factors that you may or may not be fully aware of.
Resale Potential – The biggest thing when it comes to furs right now and pawn shops is going to be how easy or difficult it would be for the pawn shop to resell it.
That is going to depend on several smaller factors:
Brand Name – The brand name of a fur is going to make a pretty big difference in how much a pawn shop can afford to offer you for it on a loan or as a sale. Like all things, there are some highly desirable designer brand names and then there are more budget oriented, lower quality brands names as well. The better brand your fur is, the most likely it is that you will get more for it.
Condition – The condition of your fur is going to be an absolutely enormous factor in determining how much a pawn shop can loan you against it or offer to buy it from you for. Obviously a well cared for, cleaned and properly stored fur going to be worth a lot more than one that is stained or ripped in areas.
Local Demand – The next big determining factor in how much a pawn shop will give you for your fur is the amount of local demand they have for furs to begin with. If nobody in the area has interest in them, they aren’t going to pay a whole lot for them.
However, if you live in an area where people still like wearing furs or they are specifically sought after, then a pawn shop will be much more motivated to pay you a bit more for your fur because there is a greater likelihood that they will be able to easily resell it.
