In the wonderful wild world of pawn shops you will often find that there is a pawn shop out there that will take just about anything under the sun – and they would accept the sun on a loan if they could.
That having been said, what about your average Joe pawn shop. Will those types of pawn shops buy fax machines?
Good question really – and I guess there’s going to have to be a few things that we cover first before we really get into the root answer at hand.
The first thing is that not all pawn shops are the same obviously. They aren’t like a big box store where these thousands of locations that all operate under the same rules.
No, you see pawn shops are owned by thousands of individual business owners and they each have their own ideas about what makes a good loan or what is a good item to buy or not.
Because of that, it is almost impossible for me to give you a one-size-fits-all blanket answer that yes all pawn shops do ‘this or that…’
The other thing that we need to keep in mind when talking about the idea of making a loan against a fax machine or trying to sell it to a pawn shop is that fax machines have been around for the 80’s. If you are trying to sell a 20 year old fax machine, you probably won’t have much luck no matter where you go unfortunately.
That having been said, there are also plenty of newer fax machines out there as well and you may find that there are pawn shops receptive to the idea of taking those in.
There are a lot of fax machines that most pawn shops will be happy to buy from you but if your fax machine looks like it is from 1985, your chances are slim.
Assuming that your fax machine is somewhat current and in decent working condition the first thing that you are really going to need to do is find a pawn shop that will take it in.
Now, this isn’t going to be too difficult I don’t think – particularly if your fax machine is somewhat complete and comes with things like the box and manual.
You really want to try to find a pawn shop in your area that is known for taking in electronics and printers as most pawn brokers will associate things like fax machines with computer printers as they roughly serve the same purpose these days it seems.
In most cases, I tell people to just search the phrase “Local pawn shops” on Google.com and then call every single listing but you really aren’t likely to have to do that when it comes to something like a fax machine. Normally you are going to find a few pawn shops that are happy to work with you on it right out of the gate and will probably only have to call maybe 2 or 3 at most.
That having been said, how do you get the most out of your item?
How To Get Paid The Most
So you have this fax machine that you want to sell and you now know of a few pawn shops that are willing to take a look at what you have and see if they can make you a loan against it or offer to buy it outright from you.
Great, the next step you are going to want to take is to put yourself in the position of being able to get the most out of your item that you possibly can.
The best way to go about doing this is to consider for a moment what a pawn shop is thinking about when they buy something from someone. That is, they want to know that they will be able to easily resell it without much trouble and if that is the case, then they will be much more likely to make you a loan against it or buy it off of you for a very good price.
So now take that consideration and look at your fax machine. Is it in good condition? Is it cleaned and shiny?
If it’s not then this is something that you are going to want to correct before you walk into the pawn shop with it. You want your fax machine to look as new as possible because that will potentially make it look like something that would be easy for the pawn shop to turn around and resell when they have to.
The easier it is for them to do that, the more likely you are to get more money out of it and it’s really just that simple in most cases.
The next thing that you are going to want to do is to be able to demonstrate that it works properly and just as it should. No pawn shop is going to want to buy a fax machine with problems or that they can’t see print something out so much sure that your unit has plenty of ink and will be able to print something out when you need to – even if it’s just something basic like a settings sheet or an introduction page as most fax machine and printers can print out on command these days.
Displaying that your fax machine is in good working order will help give the pawn broker in question the confidence he needs to go ahead and make you the best loan possible or pay you the most possible for it.
Follow these two very simple tips and you should have plenty of luck when it comes to pawning or selling you fax machine to a local pawn shop.
